Waytrails: Frequently Asked Questions

On  Thursday 19th December 2024 and on Monday, January 27, 2025, we notified all users who had subscribed to receive updates that we would be closing the Waytrails app. In compliance with GDPR, we only retained the email addresses of those who had explicitly opted in to receive marketing and updates.

After much consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to withdraw the Waytrails app from the stores. The reality of competing with big tech became unsustainable. Our mission has always been to create joy for thousands of trail enthusiasts, not to funnel hard-earned money into hosting platforms that took more than they gave.

The app world has become an endless cycle of fees, cuts, and restrictions. This relentless grind was pulling resources away from what we value most: our customers and the trails we love to share. With the rise of free mapping tools and AI, along with platforms like YouTube offering tips, advice, and historical content, we couldn’t justify the ongoing investment in the app.

App Access and Refunds

Access to the Waytrails app will continue until 31/01/2025, after which it will no longer function.

To request a refund:

1. Go to your subscription in Apple or Google.
2. Follow the instructions in How Do I Cancel My Subscription?

Please note, we don’t hold your money—Apple and Google do. They deduct their share first and only then pass on the remainder to us.

Each trail includes a free GPX file for download, providing precise navigation to help you plan your journey with ease.

Detailed itineraries are available for select trails, as indicated. These include terrain insights, points of interest, and accommodation recommendations.

Yes, Waytrails offers all GPX for all trails for free. You can download the GPX files directly from their specific pages under All Trails. 

Waytrails is designed to assist you in booking, planning, and discovering everything about your chosen trail. To maximise your trip, we strongly encourage using all resources to their fullest potential. 

Absolutely! Starting Spring 2025, fully supported cycling trips will be available through Freedom Trails. Enjoy expert guidance, hassle-free logistics, and an unforgettable adventure.

Currently they offer supported cycling trips along the Western Front Way and Normandy Way. For all other trails they can advise.

Waytrails is continuously adding a variety of trails, including day hikes, weekend hike and cycle trips, and long-distance trails.

Current trails in the collection range from 20km - 1000km but all can be broken up into stages to accommodate your timings and interest. 

Match a trail that suits your preferences and plan your distances, match abilities, and timings accordingly. You have full control over your trail experiences.

Where stated, we supply hotel accommodation and itineraries along the trails.

Absolutely! Our trails have created and curated stories that are engaging for younger adventurers, making outdoor adventures enjoyable for the whole family. The distances of the trails are clearly listed, allowing you to plan according to your preferences. The stories have something for everyone and make great talking points as you travel.
