Normandy Way
This isn’t another battlefield coach tour. It’s a test of legs and perspective.
A Cycle Trail Built to Break the Battlefield Mould
Overview:
Concept:
The Normandy Way is a 300km bike loop from D-Day beaches to cider-fuelled villages, and you’ll pass the kind of places people usually only point at from a tour bus. But you’re going to cycle through one of the most important routes in Europe and come back better, fitter and smarter.
Distance: Approximately 300 km
Duration: 3–5 days, depending on pace and stops
Start/End: Circular loop starting and finishing in Ouistreham
Ability: Suitable for seasoned cyclists looking for distance, and confident casual riders wanting a long weekend
Terrain: Coastal paths, WWII landing beaches, rolling farmland, historic towns; mostly flat with some gentle climbs
Best For: Cyclists happy with a ride that hits harder than your average holiday route
The trail is designed to move how you move. You can either hit it hard over a long weekend or stretch it to 4–5 days and soak it up slowly. So get off the bus and into the saddle. See our essential cycling kit list.
Normandy Deserves Better. So Do You.
We built this trail because we weren’t seeing enough physically active people taking on the Normandy Beaches and missing out on what essentially makes Normandy perfect for cycling!
And Normandy isn’t just D-Day landings. It’s William the Conqueror and Matilde, The Greatest Tank Ace, Bayeux, The Free French, Women in the Resistance, Charles Shay landing as a First Nation medic. We’ve pulled the most gripping stories together in ‘Notable People & Places’. Educate yourself before you go or read on the move. We’ve done the hard work so you don’t have to and we loved finding different stories to tell.
And if you’ve brought a mate who’s not obsessed with WWII? Good. There’s plenty here beyond the beachheads. This trail balances the battlefield sector with cider, seafood, beautiful beaches, Belle-Epoque and Camembert!
Of all our Waytrails, this is the one Strava addicts will love. Maybe it’s to do with the Normandy mindset or that it’s a weekend challenge with a difference. Something more fun than going round the park on a Sunday morning and getting a latte.

Saints, Spirits & Stuffed Duck
Normandy’s got stories that pre-date the D-Day headlines.
Start with the saints. Bayeux tells the story of Saint Loup, a 5th-century bishop who, according to legend, saved the town by slaying a monstrous wolf that terrorized the locals. The village of Saint-Loup-Hors bears his name. Mont-Saint-Michel rises out of the mist like it’s trying to pierce heaven, built, they say, after Archangel Michael himself put the fear of God into a local bishop. You’ll ride villages where the devil was blamed for storms, famine, and pretty much anything inconvenient.
Then there’s the food. This region isn’t shy about feeding you well. Expect galettes and creamy Camembert strong enough to stop a peloton. Duck confit that will add a few pounds. Wash it down with cider or Calvados, depending on how hard you’ve earned it.
Forget battlefield sandwiches and warm tour bus coffee. This is where gastronomy guides you instead.
